Marc and Jasmine Bastarache took over Venture Stables from Larry Banman last November, and were able to raise money for ALS in his memory this past weekend.
Banman passed away from ALS almost three weeks ago. The Venture Stables Fun Show was already planned, and the funds from the three-day event are going to the ALS Society of Prince Edward Island.
This was the first year, and Marc said they didn’t have a fundraising goal in mind, but will be having another event in the fall.
“It was a success. Everybody had a great time.”
The Fun Show was for beginner and experienced horseback riders, with a variety of events, relay races for kids, and Marc and Jasmine’s wedding, which took place on Saturday at the stables, with anyone able to attend.
Darlene Jurkowski has been horseback riding for 16 years, and knew Banman since she started.
“Larry was a well-loved man, and we miss him dearly.”
Jurkowski came in first place out of six riders for one of the events on Sunday.
She has loved horses since she was a child, and riding is a big part of her life.
“I always wanted to do this. You have to be very disciplined, ride every day, and train your horse.”
It’s a great event to raise money for an important cause, she said.
“We’re all honoured to be here and to be part of the show.”
